A video shows the LG Rollable smartphone, which never arrived on the market

LG Rollablelo smartphone pieghevole that never was, is shown in a video online. Last big project before LG closed the smartphone division, it could have been one of the most innovative smartphones of 2021. Instead, only a few LG employees were able to buy it as a souvenir.

A South Korean channel was able to get their hands on a box of LG Rollable, to then shoot a real video of unboxing e hands-on sul dispositivo. Too bad none of us will be able to buy it in the near future.

LG had also designed a box that opened by expanding sideways, simulating the same movement as the folding e lengthening the ‘o’ of Rollable. A sign that they had really thought of everything for this smartphone, which unfortunately they could not launch.

The display normally measures 6.8 inches of P-OLED, curved on both sides. LG builds the screens for half of the smartphone makers, so the quality seems to live up to expectations in the video. With a horizontal swipe, you could enlarge the screen up to get to 7.4 inches, with an aspect ratio of 3: 2.

By enlarging the device, the apps adapt to the tablet size. Both YouTube and the settings do it intelligently, showing side menus. The display wraps around the back and avoids creasing that we often see in the more ‘classic’ foldables.

It also wasn’t there no button on the device: the volume, for example, can be adjusted with touch-sensitive side pads. And the card SIM is accessible only with the unrolled smartphoneor’. On the other hand, the possibility of doing it is interesting Selfie in high definition using the rolled-up screen on the back.

For the rest, it is a top-of-the-range smartphone from last year: Snapdragon 888, 12GB di RAM e 256GB of memory. But it would have been something really new: and in a world where the top of the range don’t always innovate a lot, we would have liked to try it.
