Alibaba unveils the main shopping trends for the Chinese New Year

Between January 31 and February 4, Alibaba recorded a increased demand for ski equipment by over 180% on Tmall compared to last year. Ice sports equipment grew by 300%. Note one strong growth in bookings for trips to winter or snow destinations recorded by Fliggy, Alibaba’s online travel platform.

The other trends

Among the trends of the Chinese New Year there is also one growth of 345% for the sale of ready meals at the Freshippo high-tech supermarket and 100% on Taobao compared to last year. Noteworthy is the + 874% growth in searches for the term tiger on the Tmall and Taobao platforms during the Spring Festival. Another trend highlighted by Alibaba is the doubling of sales of smart and energy-saving appliances.
