AMD: Ryzen 9 5900X prototype with 3D V-Cache presented

At Computex AMD rehearses the future: presented a prototype of Ryzen 9 5900X with 3D V-Cache for truly amazing performance

AMD during the Computex 2021 presented a rather innovative processor prototype. It is a processor made with a technology called 3D V-Cache Technology. Just think of a chiplet with SRAM memory mounted above the CCD (core complex die). The prototype we are talking about, among other things, boasts theintegration of another 64 MB of cache at 7 nanometers for each chiplet. All of this jolts the 12-16 core Ryzen processor to 192MB L3 cache in spite of the current 64MB.

The advantages of this technology

Such a technology will surely have important repercussions on performance of the architectures that will see it implemented. According to the US multinational, the aforementioned prototype Ryzen 9 5900X with technology 3D V-Cache will be able to achieve performance on average 15% higher in the gaming a 1080p with peaks up to 25%. Clearly the yardstick was the classic Ryzen 9 5900X.

As can be seen directly from the image, the cache of 64 MB it sits above the CCD via TSVs interconnects which manage to push the chip up to bandwith of 2 TB / s. The density of interconnections, again according to AMD, would result two hundred times greater compared to classic 2D solutions.

Even the CEO of the company, Lisa Su, stated that AMD will begin later this year a produce processors based on this technology. We do not yet know the times within which we will have products with this technology in stores, if it is a question of solutions Zen 3 O Zen 4, we do not even know which market areas such a product will target. So all that remains is wait for official news and keep you, as always, constantly updated.
