Animaphix, the festival dedicated to international authorial animation, is back in Sicily for the eighth edition. This year, the festival becomes double

The eighth edition of Animaphix is ready. The festival doubles this year and features screenings, special events and screenings.

The first part will take place from Friday 29 July until Sunday 31 July in Bagheria, in the Villa Cattolica, Renato Guttuso Museum, while the second part will be at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa in Palermo from 12 to 18 October 2022.

The theme of the first part of the festival

Il format of the first part of Animaphix-International Animated Film Festival, will be Animated Painting, which promotes the production, knowledge and dissemination of artistic animation cinema in its pictorial form. In fact, it is no coincidence that painting was the most expressive and experimental form of the twentieth century.

L’admission to the festival is free and during these three days they will be presented 20 short films made with the pictorial technique, who will participate in the competition for the Renato Guttuso Award.

The Guttuso Prize was established last year to pay homage to one of the main exponents of pictorial neorealism.

The festival also will present the full retrospective and a cine-concert with the live soundtrack of the works of Canadian artist Thomas Corriveau, who finds his highest artistic expression in drawing.

Later there will be a special tribute to the French director Florence Miailhea master in creating scenes directly under the room with tempera, pastels or sand, through a covering process.

It will be these two directors who will decree the winner of the Guttuso Prize for animated painting.

The section Visual Arts emphasizes the relationship between the festival and contemporary art. It will be possible to visit Urpflanze, Giovanni Frangi’s personal exhibition, which shows the artist’s love for the landscape and nature. The eighth edition of the event officially opened with this exhibition at the Edicule Hall of the Museum.

There will also be one space dedicated to special screenings with several films out of competition.

The second part of the festival, which is scheduled from 12 to 16 October, will be held at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa in Palermo.
