Another day of cyber war for Anonymous, which continues its offensive to blow up Russian sites, gather important information and protest Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In the last few hours the collective has scored several important hits. Including having communicated a plan to take the life of the Ukrainian president Zelensky (perhaps it came from dissidents of the Russian secret services) and not only. It seems the hacktivist group is proposing Bitcoin to Russian soldiers to sell tanks and weapons.
The Anonymous offensive continues. But as we have already explained to you in making the reports of the other days, it remains difficult to verify the origin of the information and the attacks in this cyber war. In addition to the Anonymous hackers there are several operators who are standing attacking the Kremlin electronically in these hours. And the possibility remains that behind the attacks there is the work of some state agent (with the United States that could work in the shadows).
However, attacks on the Kremlin continue. Because as Anonymous explains on Twitter: “No. Anonymous is not at war with Russia. We are at war against Putin. The Russian people do not support Putin’s war of aggression against the Ukrainian people ”.
The most important news reported by the social media accounts of the hacker group concerns a fundamental news, but which they did not obtain thanks to their skills as a hacker. Indeed it appears that information on a supposed plan for assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky did not come from cyber espionage. But it seems that the FSB (the Russian secret service) voluntarily leaked the news to Kyiv. This could be a first act of rebellion by the military and espionage against the Kremlin.
Instead it would come from the research of the group in Russian government servers the discovery of the plans to attack Ukraine. Documents attesting that the decision to strike Kyiv has been approved as early as January 18, foreseeing an initial attack from February 20 to March 6.
Instead the analyst Michael Horowitz confirmed the quality of the data collected. But he allegedly attributed the discovery of these documents to Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, with Anonymous only spreading the Russian plans. Which in any case would now be in Kyiv’s hands, forcing Putin’s army to change on the run.
According to reports from various newspapers as well as some Twitter accounts linked to Anonymous, the hacker group is also trying to to desert members of the Russian army. In particular, they appear to have proposed rewards up to 50 thousand euros in Bitcoin (about 5 million Russian rubles) for each tank delivered to the Ukrainian defense.
According to the hacker collective, they should simply place a white flag on their floats and set how vehicle access password “million“, In order to declare themselves defeated and obtain the reward. A tactic that could hardly prove to be successful but that could at least undermine the confidence of the Russian army.
But Russian hackers are also responding. Not only the Kremlin cyber armies but also theoretically unaffiliated groups such as Killnet. He allegedly announced a direct attack on the Anonymous website (which is still online), saying: “The Internet is full of false information on Russian bank hacks, attacks on Russian media servers and much more. All of this is not dangerous for people. This “information bomb” contains only text. And nothing more bad. Don’t fall in love with false information on the internet. Have no doubts in your country “.
Despite what Killnet said seems to be Russian propaganda, it is actually difficult to verify the work of Anonymous. The Russian media did not disclose the attacks suffered e the anonymity of the collective makes fast and effective fact-checking impossible. However, a lot of information has been verified by independent sources. We advise you not to take everything for authentic but it seems that many more reputable sources are testing a good portion of the attacks.
