Apple wants to increase production outside of China

According to estimates by the Wall Street Journal, over the 90% of Apple products are made in China. This has led in the last period to having to suffer production delays due to some lockdowns in different areas of China. It is the main reason why the orders of the new MacBook Pro and Mac Studio they are arriving in Europe and USA only from second half of July.

The Journal therefore reports that some Apple suppliers would be ready to meet Apple’s needs by moving abroad. In particular, India and Vietnam they are at the top of the list for the location of new production plants and extensions of existing lines.

It is not the first time that Cupertino has considered the possibility of divesting from Chinese soil. In 2019, in the midst of the battles on tariffs between the former US administration and Beijing, he had thought of taking iPhone production outside of China. But the pandemic has also slowed this process.

However, the Wall Street Journal notes that China remains an interesting territory in which to produce. The system manufacturing is very advanced, i workers are extremely trained. And they cost less. Furthermore, the Chinese market remains important for Apple also in terms of sales.

It therefore appears that Apple can remain linked to current suppliers, but asking them to move production abroador. India would be a complex half, given the political relations between Beijing and New Delhi. Vietnam and Southeast Asian breaks would be better candidates.

At the moment, however, there is no official information. We will keep you informed.
