Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Anno 1800 and other Ubisoft games arrive on Steam

Ubisoft titles have been missing on Steam since 2019, but apparently that’s about to change. The company said today that popular first-party titles such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Anno 1800 and the free-to-play Roller Champions will also be available on Steam.

The announcement came via The Verge, which collected and shared the following official statement signed by Jessica RoacheUbisoft spokesperson:

“We are constantly looking for new ways to bring our games to the public, while also providing a coherent ecosystem through Ubisoft Connect. We have never severed our relationship with Valve, having released a lot of downloadable content (DLC) on the platform”.

The fact is that for three years (since 2019) Ubisoft games have been released on other platforms. The Division 2 and Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, for example, were released on the Epic Games Store (as well as on the proprietary Ubisoft Connect platform).

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on Steam: when?

According to reports from The Verge, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be available on Steam from 6 December. The game’s new DLC will also be released on the same day. In addition to Valhalla, Anno 1800 and Roller Champions will also arrive on Steam on the same day. The latter will be available for free as it is a free-to-play.

NME reports that Epic Games Store, compared to Steam, would be cheaper for publishers. EGS splits the revenue by allowing publishers to keep 80% of the revenue, while Steam keeps the extra 10% on sales.

In 2019 Chris Early, a senior Ubisoft executive, had criticized Steam’s revenue sharing. In an interview with the New York Times, Early called Valve’s business model “obsolete”.
