Beyond Good and Evil 2: A matter of time before the game is canceled

Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been waiting for many years, and according to some developers the game may soon be canceled

The creation of a video game is a rather long and tortuous process, often consisting of various difficulties and impediments. Many titles in development are nipped in the bud, or after a long and exhausting period of production; making a game leads to having to exploit a large number of resources, not only on the financial side, but also on the creators themselves.

They spend most of their time coming up with new concepts, building the fundamental aspects of gameplay, of the artistic and musical side. Whenever a future game is abandoned, everything is also lost effort and dedication that the members of a team wanted to bring into it during development. And perhaps this is precisely what will happen with Ubisoft’s highly anticipated Beyond Good and Evil 2 game, which is expected to be canceled very soon.

Beyond Good and Evil 2: will the game be canceled?

While many games are canceled even before they are announced, others end up with staying in a drawer indefinitely, remaining with being merely remembered by only a few players. We have seen this with the title of Rockstar Agent, and for sure many will still remember the new Fable and Scalebound, titles that had generated very high expectations at E3 2014, only to be canceled 3-4 years later.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 è rimasto for fifteen years in development, and with the departure of game director Michel Ancel in 2020, the situation has not improved at all. According to the tweets published by the well-known insider Tom Henderson in the last few hours, the main problem of the title is the “Lack of creative direction”; in aggiunta,  Beyond Good and Evil 2 no longer respects future ambitions by Ubisoft, thus meaning why the game may be canceled very soon.

Officially announced in 2008, probably development had to start from the beginning several times over the years, until it presented itself in a concrete way in 2017. The promises offered by this sequel-prequel to the first title gave the player an incredible singleplayer experience, with numerous possibilities for customization in a huge world, so much so that it was been defined the very first AAAA game by one of the artistic directors of Ubisoft Paris, Cyril Masquilliere. However, seeing the direction Ubisoft is taking with Far Cry 7 and Assassin’s Creed Infinity, the developers of Beyond Good and Evil 2 themselves are aware that they will have to abandon this project sooner or later.
