This year Blizzard is facing a unstable situation rather burdensome on the company, caused by the numerous accusations that have been leveled at the company regarding the abuses that employees would have suffered from important figures within the managerial area, as well as by colleagues themselves.

This factor has resulted in major changes in Activision Blizzard, leading to the abandonment of several important roles that they should have worked on the next two new titles from the development house, including director Jeff Kaplan and producer Chacko Sonny for Overwatch 2, while for Diablo 4 there was the departure of director Luis Barriga, thus making it impossible to define when the release of the new titles initially planned for 2022 will take place.

When will Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 be released?

In reality, it was not yet known when Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 would find their release; as early as 2019, during BlizzCon, Jeff Kaplan said of have no idea of when the games would be launched, and later Blizzard itself stated that this certainly would not happen in 2021. This time, at least, a precise time frame has been given indicating when they they will not come out. In a new announcement from the company, it is stated that, with the change of staff at the head of the various projects and Blizzard, the need to provide additional development time to some content planned for next year, in order to reach their full potential.

During a financial presentation, Blizzard says they still have one planned substantial amount of content for the following year, but foreseeing a launch further away from that initially hypothesized with regard to Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4. Obviously, it is still missing a precise date for the release, and probably it will not be before 2023. On this front, Mike Ybarra has tried to calm the waters, highlighting the presence of talented veterans in the Blizzard teams, which have recently achieved important progress and goals.

However, the change in leadership allowed us to see the outcome of the final stages of development, leading to the conclusion that we had to take more time to get to great experiences at launch, as well as guaranteeing a total involvement for the various communities in the following years.
