BlizzCon: canceled the 2021 event, here’s what the next showcase period will be

The official is coming: BlizzCon 2021 will not be held due to the pandemic, Blizzard has already announced a period for the next event

Yes: Blizzard has canceled its BlizzCon 2021 live event, citing as the reasons (it could not be otherwise) the concerns due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, the videogame entertainment giant plans to broadcast a physical and virtual showcase in the period at the beginning of 2022. Let’s see all the details about it in the next lines of this article.

BlizzCon: the 2021 event will not be held but we already have a period for 2022, here are the (few) details of the next event

We have seen BlizzCon 2020 canceled and replaced with an online event due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the same fate also struck the BlizzCon 2021 event planned by Blizzard Entertainment, of the next event, for now we only know the approximate period. Until now, the behemoth had been fairly “quiet” about its plans for this year’s event, but now citing the “ongoing complexity and uncertainties of the pandemic,” we know the event has been suppressed.

BlizzCon: canceled the 2021 event, here's what the next showcase period will be

In a new post on the BlizzCon website, the show’s executive producer Saralyn Smith outlined what the company is planning later this year in lieu of the aforementioned event:

As California guidelines on in-person meetings continue to evolve and the status of the pandemic fluctuates around the world, Blizzard teams have been discussing what this means for one of the events we miss most: BlizzCon. We know some of you may be wondering what your plans are to potentially cross the country and meet your friends, family and community members in California, so today we wanted to warn you that we have decided not to hold BlizzCon this year.

Smith noted that Blizzard is in the planning stages of an event to be held during the “early part of next year” and, unlike the online-only BlizzCon event we saw taking place in February 2021, this next event will, at the same time, in person and in streaming.

Organizing a BlizzCon face-to-face is a truly “epic” and complex affair that requires many months of preparation. The ongoing complexities and uncertainties of the pandemic have impacted our ability to move forward correctly on many of these fronts, and we have ultimately passed the point where we would be able to develop the kind of event we would have liked to organize for you in November. .

Blizzard promises to share more information as it becomes available so we will keep you updated on all future developments.
