BMW Group: CO2 emissions reductions continue in 2021

In 2021, the BMW Group once again significantly exceeded its European targets in terms of reductions in CO2 emissions: this is the important news coming from the German carmaker. With emissions of approximately 115.9 grams per kilometer (based on an internal estimate) the company has exceeded by approx ten grams the fleet target of 126 grams per kilometer in the EU27 + 2 (EU, Norway, Iceland).

In the year ended December 31, the BMW Group launched two highly successful all-electric vehicles onto the market: the BMW iX and the BMW i4, the demand for which is exceeding expectations.
In the old continent, specifically, there is a great interest in electromobility: in 2021, more than one in four vehicles in the EU27 + 2 it was either fully electric or plug-in hybrid.

This success can also be enriched by two further milestones that the company reached in 2021: for the first time a fully electric vehicle, the MINI Cooper SE, has become the highest volume model for one of the BMW Group brands. The company also delivered its one millionth electrified vehicle to a customer in December 2021.

The BMW Group aims to sell more than 200,000 fully electric vehicles in 2022 in the future, at least double the sales in 2021. This year, the launch of the purely electric version of two other major models, the BMW i7 and BMW iX1, will increase the total number and percentage of electrified vehicles sold. In 2022, the BMW Group will produce at least one fully electric vehicle at each of its factories in Germany.

In 2021, the BMW Group has once again strengthened its targets to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and has also committed to following a path to meet the 1.5 degrees target for limiting global warming. The BMW Group plans to reduce each vehicle’s CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030. Finally, the company became the first German car manufacturer to join the “Business Ambition for 1.5 ° C” campaign launched by the “Science-Based Targets Initiative” and is committed to reaching the target of complete climate neutrality at the latest. by 2050.
