Canada also investigates ChatGPT for use of personal data

Canada’s Privacy Commissioner has launched an investigation into OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. The point of the investigation concerns the collection, use and dissemination of personal data without consent. Those data that make the functioning of generative AI possible.

ChatGPT, Canada also opens a privacy investigation

The Libre Eco newspaper reports that Canada has also made an accusation against ChatGPT very similar to that of the Italian Privacy Guarantor. The San Francisco-based company allegedly received a “report of collection, use and disclosure of personal information without consent”.

Artificial intelligence collects huge amounts of data to be able to come up with answers using its own probabilistic algorithm. But according to Canada, it could be doing it illegally. Something that Italy also contests, as France, Germany and Ireland could soon do.

In La Stampa, the head of technological development of OpenAI, Mira Murati, comments “if there are countries that are afraid, I hope they will do so by starting a dialogue with us instead of blocking or shutting us down”.

Meanwhile, ChatGPT is also being discussed on the other side of the world. In fact, as reported by Repubblica, the president of the province of Hepburn Shire, Brian Hoodthreatened to sue OpenAI if he doesn’t correct the fact that ChatGPT reports he was arrested over a banking scandal.

The road therefore seems to be uphill for OpenAI, which after having enjoyed the success of the novelty of its creation, must deal with the right to privacy and more.
