Computer sales drop another 15%

According to the latest data from the‘International Data Corporation (IDC) the PC sales I am in 15% drop: in the third quarter of 2022 only 74.3 million units were sold. Despite the marketing initiatives of companies like Apple (the only one that is growing) and the new form factors presented by Lenovo or Asus, the entire sector is struggling to keep up with the pace of the past.

IDC: PC sales drop 15%

In its Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker, IDC explains that the third quarter of 2022 marks a decline in PC sales. Compared to last year, drop 15%. However, the shipments remain above the prepandemic level. When computer sales remain mainly linked to the end of support for Windows 7.

“Consumer demand remains mute despite promotional activities from companies like Apple and other competitors. That have reduced the fall and limited waiting times for shipments”Explains Jitesh Ubrani of IDC. Which explains how Apple is also the only one not to have reduced production this quarter.

However, it should be noted that the higher cost of components and logistics has raised the selling price of the individual units. In fact, this year it touches on average $ 910 per computerthe highest price since 2004 (adjusting for inflation).

Looking at market shares, Lenovo remains in first place with 22.7% of the market, followed by HP with 17.1% and from Dell with 16.1%. Apple remains off the podium at 13,5%but it is the only one that registers an increase compared to last year (+40%). All other companies are negative by at least two digits, except Asus which drops by only -7.8% and takes fifth place with 7.5% of the market.
