Sam Raimi on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

It has long been known that the Doctor Strange sequel would be the first MCU film with any grain horror. This was confirmed by Raimi himself, who stated:

Even after Scott left the project due to creative differences, the idea remained that, to create the first Marvel movie that had a horror elementso I stuck to the original intentions. […] AND spectral in some cases, scary in others. You never know what you find in the multiverse, where suspense and gloom reign. It is a way to tickle the fears of the public.

So Horror Meets MCU: What Could Go Wrong? The icing on the cake is Raimi’s experience in the superhero movie genre as well. Between 2002 and 2007, the American director brought the Spider-Man trilogywhich gave the A to the cinecomics of the new millennium, parallel to the films of X-Men and a few others. From 2008 onwards, however, theMCU and, 27 films later, it is the director’s turn to make his debut in this universe. Raimi was asked which Marvel Cinematic Universe movies he had actually seen and this was his response:

I had seen Iron Man, the first Avengers, Black Panther and Doctor Strange, then clips from the other films. They made 28 movies, I’ve actually seen four or fiveso I can’t say I am enormously familiar.
