EA Play Live 2022: the event will not be organized this year

First launched in 2016, Electronic Arts has traditionally used the week of E3 in early June to hold their own event EA Play Live, during which the publisher has always made many of its biggest announcements of the year: 2022 however will be an exception, as the EA Play Live will not be there this year, and will be replaced by a myriad of micro events.

EA has decided to cancel this year’s event in favor of many small events Secondaries focused on each new and upcoming game individually. Specifically, the publisher stated that:

“We love EA Play Live because it’s our way to connect with our players and share the news with you all. However, this year things aren’t lining up to show you everything on one date. We have exciting projects underway in our world-class studios and this year we will reveal a lot more about these games when the time is right for each of them. We look forward to spending time with you throughout the year! “

This move is hardly a surprise. L’EA Play Live last year E3 did not arrive in time and was organized a few weeks later, in July. As E3 itself appeared to be in risk of cancellation for this year, there has been little impetus from EA to maintain this traditional ad program.

Still, it’s certainly pretty sad news for anyone who still looks fondly on the traditional season of summer announcements. Let’s not forget that EA Play Live was created only to make up for the lack of E3, so the fact that the event itself is put aside suggests an interesting window into the future of gaming themed events.
