Earth Day 2021: Lenovo’s goals for a green future

This year Lenovo celebrates Earth Day 2021 by sharing the steady progress the company makes in realizing its commitment and achieving the goals it has set for the future

After you have achieved and exceeded your goals of reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, Lenovo has joined theiniziativa Science Based Targets setting ambitious new goals to reduce emissions in all company operations and along the entire value chain over the next 10 years. The new goals include plans for halve direct emissions by 2030 (Scope 1) e indirect emissions from energy consumption (Scope 2). Thanks to Lenovo’s science-based goals, the company’s efforts will make a measurable contribution to achieving the United Nations milestone of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Rob Taylor, Lenovo Director of Environmental Affairs and Compliance:

We have a responsibility to our stakeholders to carry forward the commitment to mitigate climate change, to have a positive social impact in the communities where we operate, to represent a model in our environmental citizenship activities and to behave ethically. Lenovo remains focused on building a better future through the products, solutions and services it offers and through its commitment to implementing sound environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.

Lenovo’s goals presented on Earth Day 2021

With a global presence and 63,000 employees worldwide, Lenovo, with its ESG programs, has a significant impact in several business areas, including:

  • The use of 8,000 tons of recycled plastic per year in 66 different product lines
  • L’elimination of over 3,100 tons of waste thanks to the use, since 2008, of compostable packaging made with sugar cane and bamboo
  • The reduction of packaging consumption by 560 tons in the fiscal year 2019/2020 only.
  • Joining the UN CEO Water Mandate to implement the water stewardship program and reduce water pressure by 2050
  • The completion in 2020 of the use of solar energy at Lenovo’s manufacturing facilities in Morrisville and Whitsett, United States, and Hefei and Wuhan, China.

This year, World Earth Day is more important than ever because the pandemic has revealed how connected we are all to each other, highlighting the effects we have on the planet. At Lenovo, we will continue to seek opportunities to use intelligent technologies to achieve significant global improvements in environmental impact, inside and outside the company.
