Edison and Michelin join forces for environmental sustainability

Edison and Michelin Italiana announced the underwriting of a major multi-year agreement. This agreement is aimed atenergy efficiency. The objective of the new partnership is represented by the reduction of the carbon footprint of the Michelin plant in Cuneo thanks to a series of initiatives that focus on environmental sustainability. The Cuneo site is Michelin’s largest production site in Western Europe. The plant can count on a production capacity of 13 million car tires every year.

Edison and Michelin Italiana focus on sustainability

The initiative involves the construction and installation by Edison of a high efficiency trigeneration plant. This solution will therefore be able to produce electricity, steam and water for heating and cooling. Thanks to this initiative, 97% of the energy needs of Michelin of Cuneo will be covered. Also noteworthy is the construction of photovoltaic systems, to be installed on parking canopies and in other compatible areas.

In addition, to support the production of tires, an integrated system will be created consisting of boilers for the supply of steam through the use of woody biomass with a short chain. From 2023, thanks to Edison’s solutions, Michelin-based Cuneo will have 16% of its energy available from renewable sources. This will register a reduction of CO2 emissions equal to 18 thousand tons per year. The percentage will also be able to reach 100% thanks to the flexibility of the plants and the growth in the use of alternative fuels.

A complex project that was made possible thanks to the teamwork and skills that Edison made available to Michelin to jointly achieve important objectives of efficiency and environmental sustainability. “
