According to a study carried out by Otovo, a Norwegian company that deals with the installation of photovoltaic systems for the residential sector, the comparison between a petrol-powered and electric car sees the latter able to make save money to motorists over 1,000 euros per year with the same distance (10.000 km).

The analysis compared the average annual consumption of the cars. In particular, an electric car (powered by solar energy produced by the roof of the house) compared to the corresponding version with a petrol engine. The aim of the study was to verify the impact on the portfolio of both options. In particular, Otovo considered the costs for each kilometer traveled, both with electricity generated by the Sun and with gasoline. The report also considered fuel prices for each country in which it operates (Italy, France, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Poland).

From the data collected it emerges that, in Italy, the charging of a’electric car with a photovoltaic system And 14 times cheaper compared to refueling with the gas. This result is the best of the sample tested. Spain follows, where solar energy costs 12 times less than fossil fuel. In France and Germany the ratio in favor of the electric car drops to 11. Poland closes the ranking, where electric car savings are 9 times higher than petrol and, on a par with Norway and Sweden. In the two Scandinavian countries, recharging is 8 times cheaper than full gasoline.

How do these costs impact annual expenses?

According to the study, users of a solar-powered electric car claim a cost per kilometer from 0,0084 euro, while those who drive a car with an internal combustion engine 0,1176 euro. Furthermore, thanks to the photovoltaic system, users of solar self-consumption are not subjected to increases in electricity (as happened in recent months). These can in fact count on a supply at a stable cost. All this translates into an annual expense of 1176 euro for those traveling by car with petrol and of 84 euro for the electric motorist who charges at home with solar panels.

“This study confirms the role of self-consumption as an environmentally sustainable as well as a profitable solution. The benefits are felt not only for domestic needs but also for daily commuting. And they become even more tangible by associating the photovoltaic system with an accumulation system, capable of storing energy. So you can take it when you need it and, in the case of an electric vehicle, it allows you to recharge it even in the hours without light. We believe that the ecological transition is within everyone’s reach and we work continuously for this mission, ”he says Fabio Stefanini, General Manager from Otovo Italy.
