Elon Musk as CEO of Twitter: “Should I stay or should I go”? Users have decided

Il poll with which Elon Musk asked her followers if she should step down as CEO of Twitter ended with a striking result: 57.5% of users said yes to the resignation. More than half of the 17 million who voted want one other CEO to manage the social network. Now the question is: Will Musk accept this outcome? And who could replace him?

Elon Musk as CEO of Twitter, poll closed: opponents win

Musk had launched a poll to ask his 122 million followers and to all Twitter users if they wanted him as CEO of the company. The last few days had already seen him lose two polls, both about the reinstatement of some journalists he had banned from the platform. But that users wanted to readmit. Musk had therefore promised to make important decisions on the social network only after consulting users with a survey. And the first question was: “Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will respect the result of this poll.”

Since finalizing his $44 billion takeover of Twitter, Musk has used polls to make more than one controversial decision. Like the readmission of ex-President Trump on the platform, as well as that of many users banned for violating policies. After the positive vote of his supporters, he had written: “Voice of the people, voice of God”, saying that the popular will cannot be ignored. Will it be like this again?

Musk has not yet responded to the result of this poll. But in the last few hours he wrote “As the old adage goes, be careful what you wish for because it could come true” and also “Those who want power are the ones who least deserve it.”

Musk re-twisted the poll on the reinstatement of journalists on Twitter, many wondering why he did not like the first result (later confirmed by the second). But this time it seems impossible to ignore the vote without going back on one’s word.

However, it is difficult to understand who will take the place of the billionaire. In Musk Management Month, several major advertisers have left the platform, the implementation of the new Twitter Blue caused confusion and the CEO fired three quarters of the company. Moreover, Musk will remain the owner of the company and will continue to tweet. Probably leaving little room for maneuver for a new CEO.

It is therefore still difficult to understand what will actually change on the platform. But what is certain is that Twitter users voted. AND they chose not to want Musk as CEO. Now it’s up to him to decide how to act.
