Esports School League: the first Esports Championship aimed at schools

The Esports School League or LSE is the first Esports Championship aimed at secondary schools

The first eSports Championship aimed at the world of secondary schools will begin on February 22nd. The initiative called LSE, ie Esports School League, intends to offer teachers and students a broad practical overview of the potential of eSports. The idea comes from two realities that have been working with schools for years: Maker Camp and CampuStore. The first is a company specializing in the use of video games as educational tools in schools and museums. The second, on the other hand, is a leading Italian company in the education market through technological innovation and by distributing the most innovative products in the sector to schools.

Esports School League: Starting with Rocket League

The goal of the Esports School League is to engage students in extracurricular activities precisely through the use of competitive video games. Several studies have definitively shown that students who are involved in extracurricular activities are more successful in a number of areas and this regardless of the proposed activity.

Considering that 97% of boys and 83% of girls among teenagers play video games but do not participate in extracurricular activities, the idea of offering an esports-based inter-school competition would mean reach many students and “move” these children from the solitary world of digital games to the common space of the computer lab of their school. The initiative, therefore, also wants to create an inclusive and involving moment for all students, including those who otherwise would not participate in any extra-curricular activities.

Esports are grounded in technology and provide a natural path for male and female students who want to pursue a college specialization in STEM disciplines. They also help students develop those soft skills, the so-called soft skills, such as teamwork, communication and leadership.

These are the words of the CEO of CampuStore, Pierluigi Lanzarini. Then, followed by those of the CEO of Maker Camp Marco Vigelinialso youtuber of the channel “At School with Minecraft”:

This year we start with Rocket League and from next school year, we are confident to offer games such as League of Legends, Overwatch or Valorant. Introducing esports to high school enables students to do what they love and provides them with additional opportunities to gain personal feedback and recognition as they develop critical thinking and interpersonal skills. However, we will give a considerable added value: to the schools participating in the Esports Scholastic League we will provide paths for transversal skills and orientation, the former school-work alternation so to speak, highly qualifying on a series of software attributable to one of the largest software house in the video game sector.

The Esports Scholastic League starts this year with a single competition based on Rocket League: the qualifiers will be held online between April and May, while the finals are scheduled in Rome, at the Cinecittà film studios, on the occasion of the Festival del “Rome Videogame Lab” videogame in the first weekend of November. The initiative is similar to that of ScuolaZoo and ProGaming Italia known as the High School Cup.
