Everything we know about the Google Pixel Fold

Google he is working on a leaflet and could soon reveal it: some are already circulating online specifications techniques and even a mockup of the design Of Pixel Fold. After years of development, the release of the device could be soon. So we thought we’d summarize everything we know about the first foldable coming from Mountain View.

Google Pixel Fold: design, specifications and everything we know

With the new ones Pixel 7 e 7 ProGoogle has shown that it knows how to make excellent smartphones at a competitive price, so much so that it ends up in the list of the best smartphones of all industry experts (not just ours).

However, now it seems that the Mountain View company wants to launch itself into the world of leaflets, which are still a little-explored category. Different Android manufacturers are launching their own version but so far it seems like only Samsung with its Galaxy Z ahave found the recipe for selling a good number of foldables. However, it is a growing market and Google wants to enter it, perhaps even to launch its own Android version “L“, for larger screens.

Google’s first leaflet should be called Pixel Fold and have top-of-the-range specifications. But some experts think Google might call it “Pixel Notepad“, to differentiate itself from the Galaxy Z Fold.

The design of the first leaflet made in Mountain View

Last month some renderings were leaked online, today confirmed by a video by youtuber Dave2D, who allegedly got his hands on a possible prototype of the Google leaflet. Before the release of smartphones (especially the top of the range), companies make non-functional plastic models for show the design to those who produce cases and accessories, to make sure they are ready to launch them. However, there is no confirmation on the authenticity of the mockup other than the fact that they match the recently leaked renders.

From this information, we can deduce that the internal display should measure 7.67 inches, with rather thick frames (especially lower and upper) – also to accommodate the internal cameras and the dual speakers. The resolution should therefore be 2208×1840 pixel. The external screen should instead measure 5.79 incheswith resolution from 1080×2100 pixel and a punchhole for the camera.

On the back we should find a horizontal grid for the cameras, which should resume the pattern of what we saw for the Pixel 7 Pro: two wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle sensors in an oval cutout and a zoom in a separate circle. Forming a kind of “fusion” between a Pixel 7 Pro and a Galaxy Z Fold.

Finally, it seems that Google wants to insert a fingerprint reader in the power button, so as not to have to put both on the external and internal screen.

The device should measure 58.7 x 139.7 x 5.7mm when unfolded – with the thickness doubling when folded in two. Almost half a millimeter less than Samsung’s Fold 4, which has already proven to be thin enough to convince many users.

Google Pixel Fold: le specifiche

As mentioned, the two screens should have generous dimensions and good resolution. At the moment, however, it is not clear whether will be at 90Hz or 120Hz: a discriminating factor that could greatly affect the battery, given the total surface area of the screens. Even on the brightness there is no precise information, but expect average data of 800 nights with a peak of 1200 nights.

As for the chip, we should see the new processor of Google Tensor G2. Which above all means a great ability to manage Google’s brilliant artificial intelligence to use dictation and transcription, the Google Assistant and above all the smart functions of the camera. RAM and memory are unknownbut we don’t expect major revolutions in this area.

These specifications will suffice and advance for Android 13, perhaps adapting some features from Android 12L (perhaps launching Android 13L for the occasion?). This means that the screen will adjust according to the opening and orientation of the device. There should also be a dedicated taskbar to manage multitasking more intuitively, with the ability to open two or more apps on the screen simultaneously.

The leaks discovered in the Google Camera app (someone found the data of a “isPixel2022Foldabl“) seem to suggest that the main sensor would be a Sony IMX363 da 12,2 MP accompanied by a wide angle from 12 MP Sony IMX386, like the smartphones of the A line. But a more recent leak confirms the leap in quality seen in the Pros: a sensor from 50MP Sony IMX787 con ultrawide 12 MP Sony IMX386 and a telephoto 10MP Samsung S5K3J1. In front, however, a sensor from 8MP Sony IMX355.

Release date and price

For the release, we shouldn’t have to wait beyond 2023: even the New York Times is ready to bet on it. Leaker Jon Prosser talks about maggio as a possible date, aligning with the Google I/O. But other reports, such as those from the Korean newspaper The Elec (which knows Google’s supply chain well) suggest a go out autumnal, along with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.

Until recently all the rumors suggested that Google wanted to beat Samsung on price, staying just above ai One thousand Euro. However, Jon Prosser recently even talked about 1.800 euro for the Google Pixel Fold: Overpriced if those were the features. We think the truth might lie somewhere in between: it’s worth starting saving for Google’s first foldable.
