Far Cry 6 recently released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S and, although it is definitely nothing new for fans of the franchise, it is enjoying some success. Developed by the Ubisoft Toronto division, the title follows the protagonist Dani Rojas in his personal revolution on the fictional island of Yara, located in the Caribbean. The aim of Dani, and therefore of the player, will be to overthrow the dictatorship of Anton Castillo, played by none other than the award-winning Giancarlo Esposito. In the game, in fact, there is a minigame that has caused a lot of discussion among the fans. Far Cry 6 will allow you to participate in… cockfights. A minigame that aroused different reactions, with a good slice of users who simply let themselves be taken by its simplicity, while others found it in bad taste, also considering the political activism of recent years regarding animal abuse.

PETA lashes out at Far Cry 6 by requiring the removal of cockfights

On 7 October, the Senior Manager of the Latin branch of Peta, Alicia Aguayo placeholder image, issued a statement requiring Ubisoft to remove the minigame. The statement is as follows:

Turning a bloodthirsty and terrifying sport like cockfighting into a Mortal Kombat-style video game is the furthest away from the concept of innovation, with today’s society strongly opposing those who force animals to fight to survive. The roosters used in these fights are battered with pointed spurs that pierce their flesh and bones, causing fatal wounds. PETA Latina requires Ubisoft to replace this questionable game with one that doesn’t glorify cruelty.

It is interesting to note that in Cuba, a clear source of inspiration for the island of Yara from Far Cry 6, cockfights are not only legal, but also quite popular.
