Final Fantasy 14’s Endwalker expansion postponed to December

The new Final Fantasy 14 expansion, Endwalker, has been postponed to December. The producer and director Naoki Yoshida announced the delay, saying he was “incredibly sorry” for the inconvenience. Here are all the details.

Final Fantasy 14’s Endwalker expansion arrives in December

Endwalker was previously scheduled to be released on November 23 but will now arrive two weeks later, the December 7. Early access will be available from December 3 for some players. Square Enix also announced that the patch 6.01 will arrive on December 21.

Instead the patch 6.05 should arrive il January 4, 2022. Also, the launch trailer is out now – watch it above.

Explaining the delay, Yoshida said the biggest factor behind the date change was his “selfishness as a game director”. Endwalker is there biggest expansion until today for Final Fantasy XIV. Yoshida said his “personal desire to make it even more incredible” led to the delay.

As we neared the end of development and played everything, I couldn’t contain my desire to further improve the quality of Endwalker. This expansion marks the first major climax of events in FFXIV so far. Even if we look beyond Endwalker, the FFXIV story will continue for a long time and we hope to offer many more enjoyable experiences in the game. However, it was precisely because Endwalker concludes the first major saga that I felt our team needed to push the ‘limits’ I had envisioned.

Yoshida said the team was focusing on making sure even the “smallest nuances” of the plot and the game story, which dates back to 11 years ago, were well managed appropriate and with treatment. “Unfortunately, the consequence of this was that we ended up in a situation where we cut the time required for final quality checks to add improvements,” said Yoshida.

Because of this, and the desire to focus more on the actual stability of the expansion at launch, Yoshida has decided to delay the game for two weeks.

“I humbly ask all of you to forgive me for the decision I made,” said Yoshida. To conclude, the manager revealed that the two extra weeks will allow the development team to have the time needed to “successfully represent the Endwalker story”.
