The Privacy Guarantor announced theopening of an investigation following the recent news that appeared in the press regarding the geolocation of Covid-19 positive subjects in Ravenna. The local police, in fact, would process personal data relating to the geolocation of some positive subjects to verify compliance with the isolation measures necessary in these situations.

According to what we read on website of the Privacy Guarantor, in fact, the Municipality of Ravenna will be required to provide the Authority with all the useful elements for a complete evaluation of the processing of personal data, with particular reference to the method of processing geolocation data. It will also be necessary to provide information on the tools used to build the system, including specific apps for mobile devices.

The system activated by the Municipality of Ravenna allows, on voluntary basis, to the Covid positives to send their position via app, to confirm compliance with the isolation.

Among the requests that the Privacy Guarantor has made to the Municipality there is also the one related to methods of processing the data collectedthe. In particular, in fact, the entity must provide information on the technical and organizational measures adopted to “guarantee an adequate level of security of the data processed and any third parties recipients of the data acquired through the geolocation functions”.
