God of War Ragnarok: the shields will be different “for options and abilities”

The player’s expressiveness will also extend into the gear and shields of God of War Ragnarok, word of Eric Williams

Now that Sony has finally revealed its Pulcinella secret, God of War Ragnarok has raised a bit ‘of veils on the aspects of gameplay in question and to capture our attention was an interesting detail on the shields. The director Eric Williams he talked a lot about the emphasis on making the player “expressive” even during gameplay by better reflecting his choices even during combat and exploration. Kratos’ shields in God of War Ragnarok

Asked by Jon Ford, Eric Williams confirmed that the different shields that Kratos used in the God of War trailer Ragnarok were just a few of the many that we will see in the full game. “I don’t want to go into too much detail,” Williams replied, “but yes, there are several shields with just as many options and abilities.” The aim is to give the player an “expressive” choice to “build” his own personal Kratos. The experimentation with the equipment goes “up to the defense, to play differently”, though the freedom to be true to your style will not always be guaranteed.

“The enemies will know how to adapt, or they will force you to do so in turn, leading you to change your strategy,” continues Williams. “I think it’s fun to see the players experiment”, concludes the director, “even if we want everything to be more expressive, giving weight to the player’s choices”. In another interview, Williams confirmed that the God of War fight Ragnarok will bring back several mechanics and combos from the classic era (the Greek one) that Santa Monica Studio was unable to implement in the title three years ago. The game is coming to PS5 and PS4 next year.
