Goodyear ElectricDrive GT arrives the first replacement tire for EV

Goodyear’s first replacement tire developed for electric vehicles will debut in North America, under the name of ElectricDrive GT. This news marks an important step in the manufacturer’s supply of tires for electric vehicle drivers.

The ElectricDrive GT tire features what Goodyear calls it SoundComfort Technology, which basically acts as an integrated sound barrier, and consequently helps to reduce road noise. This is important because electric vehicles do not generate noise like internal combustion vehicles which can mask the noise coming from the road.

The tire has a design of the asymmetrical tread and also a special compound which provides optimal traction for all seasons, on both dry and wet roads.

“With continued growth in the EV segment, Goodyear recognized the opportunity to provide consumers with a tire designed for the unique needs of these vehicles,” said Andrew Lau, product marketing manager by Goodyears “We know drivers are looking for a replacement tire that offers more tread wear without sacrificing performance. The ElectricDrive GT was designed with this in mind and we are thrilled to bring this option to market for electric vehicle drivers in the US ”.

Goodyear plans to expand the ElectricDrive product portfolio in 2022, with the initial version available in 255 / 45R19 104W XL. At the moment it is not yet clear whether the tire will also be offered outside the US market.
