Google opens access to Bard, its answer to ChatGPT

Google announced the opening of Early Access to Bardhis chatbot based on artificial intelligence (AI). The competitor of ChatGPTthe computer program developed by OpenAI and supported by Microsoft, becomes available to US and UK users.

Bard is an “early experiment that allows you to collaborate with generative AI“, as Google explains in its official blog. It is a chatbot that uses a language model called LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications), which allows Bard to generate responses based on context and the likelihood of next words. Google’s Sissie Hsiao and Eli Collins explain: “You can use Bard to boost your productivity, accelerate your ideas, and fuel your curiosity. You could ask Bard for suggestions for reaching your goal of reading more books this year, explaining quantum physics in simple terms, or sparking your creativity by outlining a blog post.”

Bard isn’t integrated directly into the Google search engine, but it is conceived as a complementary experienceAnd. After generating a response, you can click the button Google It to open a new tab with a page of related results. However, there are no footnotes like in Microsoft’s Bing Chat.

Bard thus made its very first debut, but it is still far from being a product part of the Google experience. On the other hand, Microsoft is increasingly integrating Bing Chat into its products, from the Edge browser to the Office package.

Google therefore has time to catch up. Although a good integration could make all the difference: the chatbot “wars” have begun.
