Hitachi Rail, 75% prefer public transport (if well connected)

A recent survey by Hitachi Railwhich analyzes the data collected in Genoa with the project GoGoGepoints out how people would prefer i public transport – if they were better connected. Indeed, the 75% of respondents in eight cities around the world (including Turin) express a preference for public transport.

Hitachi Rail, 75% prefer public transport (if well connected)

In the study, Italy is even more inclined to use public transport: 83% of those who answered in Turin think that if the line were integrated, intelligent and efficient they would choose to move with public transport. Indeed, 63% of Turin residents say they are ready to pay more to improve the quality of the service (above the global average of 60%).

Something that satisfies Hitachi Rail, which launched its smart mobility in Genoa last year, thanks to the GoGoGe app. The pilot project wants to help not only passengers, but even ATM operators.

According to the Turinese, the main problem is the overcrowding (48%), as well as the lack of comfort (42%). So much so that 80% of Turin residents would use the means if they knew how crowded they are in advance (instead of using the car at 73%). A smart approach would also help because the 59% use apps to plan trips. However, 61% are unwilling to share their payment information with multiple travel apps.

Furthermore, 17% of Turin residents would use the means even just for an environmental factor.

Smart mobility integrata

Taking all these data into account, Hitachi Rail is improving its integrated smart mobility suite, already implemented from Genoa to Trento. Smart ticketing solutions, but also simpler and more complete information for traffic. Using the “digital twins”the following Lumada Mobility Management di Hitachi Rail allows you to connect, scale and optimize the entire transport network in real time.

Luca D’Aquila, CEO of Hitachi Rail for Italy and COO of the Hitachi Rail Group, explains: “Congestion on our roads costs the country billions of unproductive hours spent by citizens in traffic every year and has serious impacts on public health. Despite the various differences in culture, standards and transport infrastructures among the eight cities chosen for the study, the solution always seems to lean towards integrated smart mobility systems. We are proud to have inaugurated two intelligent mobility systems in Italy in 2022 in the cities of Genoa and Trento where we are operational with our apps that make public transport more efficient, making it even more comfortable, and sometimes combining it with transport solutions individual. We aim to innovate and improve mobility because we believe it has a fundamental role in people’s quality of life and the health of the environment”.
