How to visit Azkaban prison in Hogwarts Legacy

Probably not everyone, even those who have finished the game, know that in Hogwarts Legacy you can start a mission that will take you to visit Azkaban. For those not too familiar with the world of Harry Potter – in which the video game is set – Azkaban is the dreaded wizarding prison. Here all those who have used the unforgivable curses are locked up. The place is dark and guarded in sight by the Dementors (“in sight” so to speak, since the Dementors who have no eyes).

However visit Azkaban it will not be possible for all players of Hogwarts Legacy, given that the mission is dedicated only to a specific house. So if you have chosen Gryffindor, for example, you will not be able to start the quest. And no: throwing Crucio or Avada Kedavra on other students will not guarantee you a ticket to prison.

Hogwarts Legacy: How to Visit Azkaban Prison

While the main story is pretty much the same for all players, one of the biggest differences between the houses (besides the cosmetic colors and common rooms) are some quests. In the specific case the mission that will take you to Azkaban will be the prerogative of the Hufflepuffs. So if your common room is a giant barrel, get ready because the Dementors are waiting for you.

After a few hours of playing as Hufflepuff, after solving the first Trial of Merlinyou will be given a mission called Prisoner of Love (it’s one of the main quests, so you’ll get it no matter what). The mission will ask you to interact with the portrait of Eldritch Diggory in the Hufflepuff common room. Diggory, former Minister of Magic and alleged ancestor of Cedric Diggory from the Harry Potter books/films, will send you to his great-granddaughter to investigate a mysterious murder.

A cute and tender Dementor awaits you in Azkaban

Once you reach the woman, after a short dialogue, you will dematerialize with her right in Azkaban. Here you will be immediately attacked by those funny Dementors, but don’t worry, it will be Diggory’s great-granddaughter who will summon the Expecto Patronum to chase them away. As you are surely wondering: no, Expecto Patronum cannot be used in Hogwarts Legacy. After all, apart from this mission, you won’t find Dementors around Hogwarts and Hogsmeade (we’re not in the third book).

What can you do in Azkaban?

In truth very little. Apart from a few empty cells and a few prisoners who will say something threatening to you, the explorable space is really limited. The mission will be very fast and will consist in learning information from a prisoner named Anne. It is, in fact, the similar quest that with Gryffindor will take you to the Hunt of the Headless, with Ravenclaw to the Tower of Owls and Slytherin in the cave of Apollonia Black. Once the mission is finished, you cannot return to Azkaban later (not that you’ll ever want to).
