Ilda, the robotic hand with human features

Still news from the robotics sector. He arrives Ilda, a new artificial hand designed to be used on any robot that needs to perform tasks with typically human skills. Ilda: so robots can perform human actions with their hands

A recent study published in Nature Communications by a group of South Korean researchers led by Uikyum Kim, brought to light some interesting innovations in the robotics sector. In particular, the scholars worked on the realization of Ilda – Integrated Linkage-driven Dexterous Anthropomorphic -. An artificial hand that allows robots to perform typically human gestures. All thanks to the carefully curated design, which contains the necessary components to movement and touch in a robotic hand 218 millimeters long and weighing just 1 kilo.

“The original kinematic design of the hand mechanisms allows for a device that combines strength, agility and compactness”, commented the project. Antonio Frisoli of the Mechanical Intelligence Institute of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa. “A similar hand could be useful for industrial robots that collaborate with humans, but also for those robots that have to do precision tasks by manipulating objects typically used by humans”. Indeed, Ilda was designed with the equipment of ben 20 joints e 15 different freedom of movement. Furthermore, the fingers are capable of imparting a force equal to 34 Newton.
