Instagram has revealed that it will close its standalone messaging Threads before the end of the year. After reports of the potential closure leaked last week, the company has confirmed that it intends to proceed with this decision. The company disclosed everything to TechCrunch in the past few days.
“We are currently focusing our efforts on improving the way we connect with close friends on Instagram, and deprecating the Threads app,” said a spokesman of Instagram. “We’re bringing the fun and unique features we had on Threads to the main Instagram app. We want to continue building ways that people can better connect with their close friends on Instagram. “
Instagram will start notifying users the imminent closure starting from 23 November. The notification will ask those people to move to the main app company to continue chatting with their friends. When Instagram discontinues support for Threads, will remove the software from the App Store e Google Play.
The company also revealed that once the servers are closed, it will disconnect users from the experience.
In reality, the demise of Threads is not a real surprise. Meta (formerly Facebook) is acting cunning: despite the app boasts some interesting features and the fact that it’s been around since 2019, actually he never attracted so many users. Furthermore, the messaging ambitions of Meta have evolved significantly since the app’s debut.
In fact, in 2020 it began to unify Instagram e Facebook Messenger, allowing users of the two platforms to text each other. After this addition, it was only a matter of time before Threads ended up in the abyss of abandoned apps.
