Nobody can deny that Instagram has radically changed the way we perceive reality. And not only. With its two billion monthly active users, Meta’s platform has literally created new jobs. But isn’t the situation a little out of hand? With these premises ARTE.tv presents the documentary called Instagram: the (virtual) fair of vanities.
Made by the director Olivier Lemairethe documentary investigates the impact of social networking on our lives and the world economy, through testimonials from influencers, authors and even surgeons. Yes, because on the social network in question the appearance weighs a lot.
The documentary takes us on a journey through time through 12 years, from the launch of the platform in 2010 to its exponential growth. The official synopsis reads: “Olivier Lemaire tries to decipher the social network that more than others has redesigned our relationship with reality”.
A story that therefore cannot fail to take into account the negative impact on users’ lives. Many voices, from the French influencer Maya Borsali to the chirurgio-star “Dr. Miami”passing through the sociologist Dominique Boullier and the author Sarah Freer. Interviews that offer us different points of view on a world in constant evolution and where what matters is to be “Instagrammable”.
