It seems that with iPhone 16 Pro Apple will hide the sensors for the Face ID under the screen. This will give more display space to users, leaving only one small cut-out for the front cameraas is the case in most Android smartphones.
According to the latest report from the Korean site The Elec, Apple is working with its supply chain partners to move the sensors for Face ID under the screen. When not in use, the Truedepth camera for facial unlocking should thus be invisible.
The Elec explains that the pricniaple camera will remain on display, however, in a cut-out that could be round, like that of many Android smartphones. This is because it seems that Apple is not satisfied with current technologies for cameras under the display, which produce lower quality selfies. For the Face ID, however, they should be satisfactory.
Instead, it appears that all iPhone 15 models will have it same “pill” notch that we find today on the 14 Prowith all devices that will have the Dynamic Island.
These timelines align with the Apple project expected by expert display analyst Ross Young, who predicts that the main front camera will come under the screen only in 2026con iPhone 18 Pro.
However, many social media users report that this type of rumor has already emerged in the past, only to not become reality. If you technically move i Face ID sensors under the screen for Apple should not be a complex problem, Cupertino will not implement it until it is satisfied. At least for the foreseeable future, we should get used to the pill design. But in a couple of years the situation could change.
