Iron Man: EA Motive’s title could use the Unreal Engine

More unreal than Tony Stark’s love skills: Motive Studio is looking for talent in the use of Unreal Engine, but will they be for the Iron Man game?

The iron man of Stark Industries has thrilled the trade press in a way never seen since Robert Downey Junior’s improvisation at the end of the first Iron Manbut the videogame adaptation of Electronic Arts and Motive Studios could put in the engines of the armor none other than theUnreal Engine. The partnership with Marvel is expected to result in a single-player, third-person action-adventure title. The aim, and we quote verbatim, is to create “a triple A experience with astronomical production values”. Not much else is known at the moment, but drawing inspiration from the character’s “rich history” bodes well.

From twin worlds to paper worlds: the Unreal Engine beats in Iron Man’s armor

Given the involvement of EA, half of the gaming community had predicted Frostbite as the graphics engine for Iron Man, before the job announcement we are talking about today focused the spotlight on the Unreal Engine. As the world of work has unfortunately taught us, experience is everything: the qualifications requirements, in this case, are “over five years of experience” and, most importantly, “familiarity with an advanced game engine like Unreal”. We are aware of how the ad opts for a similitudebut it’s certainly enough to raise eyebrows.

It is therefore not an official confirmation that we have before us. However, we take the liberty of connecting the dots with the recent trend of games published by Electronic Arts. We’ve seen several abandon Frostbite in favor of Epic Games’ wonder engine. It happened with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel Jedi Survivor (UE4), and the same will happen with the next Mass Effect (EU5). Time will tell if the same will happen with the steel-hearted loafer of the Marvel universe, but with this warning we doubt that this is a… solution in Extremis (we couldn’t resist).

Now it’s up to you to tell us yours, True Believers: do you think the game will keep up with the hype it has fomented so far?
