Is Facebook thinking of a rebrand? It may change its name

According to some rumors, Facebook is planning a rebrand and to change the company name next week to reflect its focus on building the metaverso. The next name change, referred to as the CEO Mark Zuckerberg would like to speak at the company’s annual Connect conference on October 28, he intends to signal the tech giant’s ambition to become more than just social media.

Is Facebook thinking of a rebrand?

The rebrand in question would likely position the Facebook app as one of the many products under the a parent company, or the one that supervises other apps bought by the social giant such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and others. Facebook has refused to provide any kind of comment so far so we only have our guesses available at the moment.

Facebook however already has more than 10,000 employees working on next generation hardware, like the AR glasses that Zuckerberg believes will be as ubiquitous as smartphones in the future. In July, the company’s CEO said that in the next few years: “We will move from seeing ourselves primarily as a social media company to a metaverse company.”

A rebrand could also serve to further separate the futuristic work Zuckerberg is focusing on from the intense scrutiny Facebook is currently under due to the way its social platform operates. Law enforcement authorities antitrust in the United States and elsewhere they are trying to crack the company’s reputation and public trust in social media for this very reason.

It is not clear how Facebook intends to reposition itself on the market to regain lost trust, also because the same concept of metaverse described by Zuckerberg is still rather smoky and without well-defined limits.
