After trying the demo, we finally got our hands on Kirby and the lost landthe latest title starring the cute pink character of the house Nintendo. We were faced with a great title simple and straightforwardbut at the same time enjoyable and relaxing, both from an atmosphere and game mechanics point of view. But let’s go in order.
The premise and plot of this title are generic enough not to be particularly relevant. Kirbytogether with the population of Waddle Deein fact, for initially mysterious reasons, ended up in a land post-apocalyptic, with half-destroyed buildings overgrown with vegetation and hostile inhabitants. His task will be to save all the Waddle Dee, held captive by the enemies of these lands.
We don’t need to know much more: at every level, always structured in a fairly enough way linearwe will have to go from start to finish, defeating enemies with our powers, solving some simple puzzles and freeing the Waddle Dee present along the way, either directly or by completing some objectives.
The two possible difficulty levels (Breezeeasier because you have more life; Stormwith less life, but with more delicious rewards) allow in theory to choose with which spirit to face the game, but in practice even the hardest level of difficulty is quite easy. You almost never risk dying, and even in crowded situations with many enemies you can untangle yourself without particular problems.
Kirby, in this game, is definitely strong, more than up to the challenge. In the basic version, between its power of aspiration and of levitation (a kind of double jump to the bitter end) is able to KO most enemies.
By sucking in some enemies in particular, he is then capable of acquire i poteribecoming capable, for example, of throwing fireballs o di brandish a sword or even of freeze his enemies. These powers, which depend on the enemies present in the level but can also be equipped earlier, have no time duration and represent one of the few elements of versatility in the game. Some levels can in fact be played very differently depending on the equipped power.
The real novelty, however, is represented by the Morphobocca. Some items are too large for Kirby to absorb, but he can incorporate them and acquire new skills, such as that of shoot cans after incorporating a distributor or planar after incorporating an arcade (don’t worry, it makes sense in the context of the game). This mechanic allows for puzzles and in general moments for sure creative e very different from the normal experience of the series titleswhich are enough circumscribed at certain parts of the level.
On the other hand, one modality that has positively struck us is that two-player. If the first player is in fact in control of Kirby, with all of his abilities, a second player can help him in the guise of a Waddle Dee armed with a spear. It is a asymmetric multiplayer: the second player cannot in fact access all of Kirby’s abilities, and is limited to use (however a lot versatile) of the default weapon.
Nonetheless, the two-person gaming experience is extremely funny. The levels may become even simpler, but in two, the collaboration and sharing of results makes everything more enjoyable.
Play Kirby and the Lost Land for this review we enjoyed it a lot. A lot of kind of fun relaxed e carefreecloser, remaining in the Nintendo house, ad Animal Crossing that not a Super Marioalthough with the latter it shares the nature of platform game. There are some more aspects challenginglike the timed mini-challenges and some targets tougher, but it’s all about aspects appreciable and in any case relatively optional. The reason to play this title is therefore not the challenge, but the experience: cute, lovely e suitable for all skill levels. And we think it’s a more than valid reason to try it.
