Knockout City will no longer be available in June

Launched in 2021 as an EA Originals game, Knockout City will permanently close its servers this summer. Starting June 6, 2023, the PvP multiplayer dodgeball game will only be available in a “private server” version on PC.

To announce it is the developer Velan Studios, who published a long post on his blog in which he explains the reasons that led to the painful decision to give up on the project. Among the main critical issues is theeconomic unsustainability of the game, which would have to constantly attract new players in order to survive. An effort that the company described as “unsustainable”.

Knockout City will go offline on June 6, 2023

Below is an excerpt from Verlan Studios’ post (which you can read in its entirety here):

“Creating such a diverse game with no points of comparison and running its live services has made the last couple of years especially challenging. Despite over 12 million players, and billions of KOs worldwide, there are several aspects of the game that need major disruption to better attract and retain enough players to be sustainable. Since we’re a small indie studio, it’s simply impossible for us to make these kinds of systemic changes in the live game. We quickly realized that we had to take a step back.”

Knockout City Season 9 will continue as normal until February 28. A final two-week farewell event called “Thanks for the Knockouts” will kick off on May 23rd. In the meantime, all real-money transactions will be removed from the game, and the public servers will officially go offline on June 6th.
