Kufid: the trailer of the documentary by Elia Moutamid

Kufid by Elia Moutamid will be distributed in Italian cinemas from June 17, 2021 thanks to Cineclub Internazionale Distribuzione.

Kufid is the film premiered at the 38th edition of the Torino Film Festival in competition in the Italian section TFFdoc dedicated to documentaries.

After the road trip from Lombardy to Morocco in the award-winning Talien – Special Jury Prize and collateral prize “Gandhi’s Glasses” at the 35th Turin Film Festival, special mention at Nastri d’Argento 2018 – the director Elia Moutamid is back behind the camera with a new documentary shot during the first months of the pandemic, which are not the theme of the film but which outline its context.

After a few weeks spent in Morocco looking for places and stories for a film about urbanization and the territory, director Elia Moutamid returns to Brescia, where he lives after moving there as a child with his family, to continue the project. The pandemic, however, forces him to remain closed at home and to start an autobiographical journey: Kufid is the result of that journey, a film shot during the pandemic but not dedicated to it. And beyond the doubts and reflections raised by a virus that upsets families and habits, a single fixed point seems to emerge: “Inch’Allah” (God willing).

Kufid’s first intent is to tell human dynamics through autobiographical narration, on a ‘narrative frame’ based on the concept of urban transformation, explains director Elia Moutamid. In this film there is me, there is Italy (that of the North), there is the present time. Something unexpected and of enormous significance upsets my plans and those of the world: I, however, decide to use it in my favor. The first line of the voiceover says: ‘As a child my parents taught me to say Inch’Allah when I plan to do something.’ Here, Kufid is this: planning for something unplanned. An oxymoron.
