The initiative aims to offer vehicles from the series Hard Top customized and personalized according to the various needs of the brands involved.

Land Rover Defender Hard Top delivered to INGV they meet the needs of technicians who need a safe and reliable means of transport to tackle the rough terrain and the impervious hills on which some monitoring stations are located. In fact, some of these located in specific areas of the Italian territory cannot be reached by “normal” means of transport. Not least is the loading possibility offered by the Hard Top which allows you to transport equipment of considerable size and extremely heavy weight used for maintenance, repair and data recording.

Marco Santucci, Chief Executive Officer Jaguar Land Rover Italia said: “This partnership with INGV, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, expresses the values of the Land Rover brand in an authentic and completely natural way, always alongside companies strongly committed to the community. In particular, it makes me proud to know that this customized INGV Defender Hard Top supports the delicate work of the researchers, committed every day to monitor possible seismic and volcanic risks, to protect our territory and people “. Marco Santucci continues: “There could not have been a more suitable car to do it: the Defender, historically used on humanitarian missions for its unstoppable all-terrain capabilities, is the epitome of the Land Rover Above & Beyond spirit.”

Land Rover Hard Top concludes its first “mission” for the INGV

The debut of Land Rover’s Defender Hard Top made available to INGV researchers saw it on stage to reach a monitoring station in the Castiglione della Pescaia area in Tuscany. Technicians had to urgently intervene on the solar panels and batteries of the seismic monitoring stations.

The car supplied to the Institute has been customized with an exclusive livery that incorporates the themes relating to the study and monitoring activity in the area. Furthermore, from a technical point of view, the vehicle was equipped with a black box used for control and localization in real time.

Prof. Carlo Doglioni, President of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, said: “The collaboration between INGV and Land Rover offers the possibility of using a high-performance vehicle to travel to places that would otherwise be difficult to access. INGV researchers need to reach the most inaccessible Italian locations to install and maintain sophisticated scientific instruments for research, monitoring and surveillance of earthquakes and volcanoes. From the Emilian Apennines with its muddy stretches, to the snow-capped peak of Etna, the car provided by Land Rover will be a very useful support for the activities of the INGV staff. The Italian partnership between the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology and Land Rover represents a happy public-private interaction, where industry provides a resistant and reliable means of research in geosciences “.
