Low-emission motorcycles and scooters also receive incentives

The Prime Minister Mario Draghi has signed a new decree for 2022 that will finance incentives for the purchase of electric and low-carbon vehicles. The government has decided to allocate considerable resources to the project, with 650 million euros per year allocated until 2024. This translates into a total of almost two billion euros until 2024 and as much as 8.7 billion until 2030.

The incentive program will not only help make low-emission, all-electric means of transport more accessible to the public, it will also provide manufacturers with a much-needed boost during this particular period. “Incentives are a concrete and long-awaited response to a sector that is going through profound suffering,” explained ihe Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti who also stressed that the whole is accentuated by the shortage of raw materials that is occurring all over the world, as well as by the war in Ukraine that has shocked several economies.

Incentives for motorcycles and scooters to be purchased in 2022: which categories are involved

The incentive program isn’t just about cars. Light electric vehicles such as motorcycles, mopeds and quadricycles are also part of the vehicles that can be purchased at very affordable prices. Practically, we may even see list prices reduced by up to 40% thanks to these incentives.

Specifically glthe 2022 incentives for the purchase of an electric vehicle, in case of scrapping of a vehicle from Euro 0 to Euro 4 (registered for at least 12 months to the same owner of the new vehicle or to one of the cohabiting family members) the maximum discount applied is 4,000 euros (or -40% on the list price) . You get a 30% discount, up to a maximum of 3,000 euros, without scrapping.

The 2022 incentives concern also the purchase of motorcycles and scooters with internal combustion engines (two, three or four wheels) new, homologated at least Euro 5. In this case, starting from a 5% discount from the concessionaire, the State adds a contribution equal to 40% of the list priceup to a maximum of 2.500 euroif a vehicle of Euro 0, 1, 2 or 3 category is scrapped (or subject to re-calibration in 2012).

Unlike electric vehicles, in the case of a purchase of a new motorbike or scooter with a heat engine, no discounts are provided if the scrapping of the “polluting” vehicle is not contextual.

The discount is applied directly by the retailer, and the buyer is not required to take any steps to take advantage of the incentive.

the vehicle categories affected by the incentivesas stated in Article 47 of the Highway Code are:

L1e: two-wheeled vehicles whose engine capacity (in the case of a thermal engine) does not exceed 50 cc and whose maximum construction speed (whatever the propulsion system) does not exceed ((45 km / h));

L2e: three-wheeled vehicles whose engine capacity (in the case of a thermal engine) does not exceed 50 cc and whose maximum construction speed (whatever the propulsion system) does not exceed ((45 km / h));

L3e: two-wheeled vehicles whose engine displacement (in the case of a thermal engine) exceeds 50 cc or whose maximum construction speed (whatever the propulsion system) exceeds ((45 km / h));

L4e: three-wheeled vehicles asymmetrical with respect to the median longitudinal axis, the displacement of whose engine (in the case of a thermal engine) exceeds 50 cc or whose maximum construction speed (whatever the propulsion system) exceeds ((45 km / h)) (motorcycles with side wheelchair);

L5e: three-wheeled vehicles symmetrical with respect to the median longitudinal axis, the displacement of whose engine (in the case of a thermal engine) exceeds 50 cc or whose maximum construction speed (whatever the propulsion system) exceeds ((45 km / h));

L6e: light quadricycles, the unladen mass of which is less than or equal to 350 kg, excluding the mass of batteries for electric vehicles, whose maximum design speed is less than or equal to 45 km / h and whose engine displacement is less than or equal to 50 cm³ for positive ignition engines; o whose maximum net power is less than or equal to 4 kW for other internal combustion engines; or whose maximum continuous rated power is less than or equal to 4 kW for electric motors. These vehicles comply with the technical requirements applicable to three-wheeled mopeds of category L2e, unless otherwise provided for by specific Community provisions;

L7e: quadricycles, other than those in category L6e, whose unladen mass is less than or equal to 400 kg (550 kg for vehicles intended for the carriage of goods), excluding the mass of batteries for electric vehicles, and the maximum net engine power of which is less than or equal to 15 kW. These vehicles are considered to be tricycles and comply with the technical requirements applicable to tricycles of category L5e unless otherwise provided for by specific Community provisions;))
