Maserati Grecale will be unveiled in preview in Milan on November 16th

Maserati has announced, via a tweet on its official social channel, that its next sporty SUV, the Grecale, will be presented on November 16 in Milan. The company claims that, like its other vehicles, this model is also named after a wind. The automaker has a long history of naming its vehicles recalling the world’s most famous winds. Mistral was the first car with a wind name in 1963, followed later by Ghibli, Bora and Khamsin.

Maserati unveiled its first SUV, the Levante, in 2016 using the same naming approach. The next Grecale, which will be the company’s second luxury SUV, should play an important role for the brand as it should change the daily driving experience, at least according to the automaker. The next Maserati Grecale is likely to share some style cues with the Levante. Some spy photos leaked on the net show a large front grille with a mesh design where the trident logo stands out in the center. Sharp LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights surround the grille. At both ends of the front bumper there are huge air intakes.

Big aggressive looking alloy wheels, a beautiful sloping roof and LED taillights will all be standard on the car. The interior of the SUV will undoubtedly have maximum comfort and a wide range of technologies.

Maserati Grecale, which engine for the new SUV?

The Grecame SUV will be built on the Giorgio platform, also used by Alfa Romeo for the Stelvio. Maserati offers a large selection of powertrains. Maserati has not yet provided information on the power that the new SUV will be able to unleash. According to rumors, it should state that it will be based on the same 631 horsepower 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine already proposed on the Maserati MC20.

However, it is also possible that the engine of the “standard” model both a lightweight 2.0-liter hybrid unit. Another engine option available is the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 which powers the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and produces 511 horsepower. Stelvio, as mentioned, shares the platform with Grecale, so it wouldn’t surprise us if Maserati used the Alfa powertrain. We know that in the future there will also be a fully electric version, which will be positioned below the Levante in the brand’s SUV range. Now all that remains is to wait for the Modenese house to reveal more details on the design of Grecale and its engine (and perhaps also the prices and availability), which should happen within a few weeks.
