Mark Zuckerberg said he wanted to generate an iPhone effect with the next AR headset from Meta, which according to his plans should shed new light on him and on the company’s social networks. The news comes from a former employee who worked on the project. The comment was published by The Verge on the occasion of a report outlining Meta’s roadmap for the AR viewer.
According to the report in question, the first generation AR glasses of Metanicknamed Nazare, will be designed to work independently of a smartphone, through the use of a wireless device that should make the entire device self-sufficient.
A key feature of the device will be the ability for users to communicate and interact with other people’s holograms, similar to the imaginary scenes depicted in a video last October announcing the corporate rebranding of Facebook in Meta.
Mata plans to deliver the model to developers by 2024, when the company also plans to release a cheaper pair of smart glasses, codenamed. Hypernovawhich will be paired with a smartphone to show incoming messages and other notifications in a head-up display.
Looking further ahead, Meta’s roadmap includes a lighter and more advanced version of the Nazare headset that will arrive in 2026, followed by a third version in 2028, again according to information shared by former insiders.
