Meta will lay off another 10,000 employees

Mark Zuckerberg announced in a Facebook post that the goal of Goal is to lay off another 10,000 employees and implement a further hiring freeze. This decision is part of the company’s ‘Year of Efficiency’, meanwhile confirming efforts in the metaverse and artificial intelligence.

The restructuring of Meta also involves the closing an additional 5,000 job vacancies without hiring. And it comes to less than six months after the company announced another wave of 11,000 layoffs.

At the beginning of 2022, Meta had grown up reaching 87,000 employees worldwide. But Zuckerberg explains that the layoffs will continue: “It will be tough and there is no way to avoid it. In the next two months, the leaders of the organizations will announce restructuring plans focused on flattening our organizations, canceling lower priority projects and reducing our hire rates.”

The restructuring and layoffs in Meta’s various divisions are expected to be completed by the end of April. The ultimate goal of the renovation is “A leaner organization will execute on its top priorities faster“, explains Zuckberberg.

Who thinks that “People will be more productive and their work will be more fun and fulfilling. We will become one even bigger magnet for the most talented people. That’s why in ours Year of efficiency, we focus on canceling duplicate or lower priority projects and making every organization as lean as possible.”

However, Zuckerberg has not talked about changing his plans regarding the billions invested in the metaverse, in fact Zuckerberg says that “Our main job is to build the metaverse and shape the next generation of computing platforms.”

As TechCrunch reports, over 100,000 people have been fired by tech companies in the first months of 2023, including 12,000 from Alphabet (Google), 2,000 from PayPal, 18,000 from Amazon and 10,000 from Microsoft.
