Microsoft: Here’s how the giant will address Activision’s abuse disputes

Microsoft, and in particular Phil Spencer, has announced that they have spoken with Activision about the disputes for abuse in the workplace.

Several days after the most important videogame news of recent times (and probably years), the Internet is still in total turmoil. Obviously we are referring to the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard by the Colossus of Redmond for almost 70 billion dollars. Although CEO Bobby Kotick will leave the company once the deal is complete, there have also been questions about the controversies that have Kotick’s company as a protagonist. As you probably know, Activision has in fact been involved in legal actions for discrimination, abuse and harassment in the last year with more employees speaking out against toxic management in the workplace, well, Microsoft he has already stated that he wants to address the issue. While Microsoft claimed to have “changed the way he deals with certain things” in regards to Activision, the boss of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer spoke broadly about how disputes on the subject will be handled abuse at work at the Washington Post. With the acquisition process starting towards the end of last year, Spencer said:

We spent time with the Activision team analyzing incidents, checking employee surveys, and then we discussed with them their initial plan on this topic and also the progress they have made on it.

Definitely, Microsoft will stay out of Activision’s legal woes with Spencer noting that the behemoth had to “look into that future countermeasures plan and make sure it is confident about that plan of action.” Spencer was also asked about gods labor unions, which is important considering that, in reality, the company’s employees do not have a union and the Activision-Blizzard workers concerned have turned to it during the ongoing disputes. Spencer replied:

I’ll be honest, I don’t have a lot of personal experience with unions. I’ve been with Microsoft for 33 years. I will not try to pass myself off as an expert on the subject, I can only say that we will talk about what allows them to do their best work, which as you can imagine in a creative industry, is the most important thing to us.

Time will tell how and if things actually improve for Activision-Blizzard workers. For now the company has reported that it would like to revive some “glories of the past” such as Guitar Hero e Skylanders.
