More than 10 million players online on Steam simultaneously – that’s a record

January continues to be a month of high volumes for video games. During the last weekend, that of the Epiphany, Steam has reached a new record of contemporary online players. A result that exceeds the previous record set in January 2022.

The platform has registered well 32,186,301 connected users, of which 10,082,055 engaged in game sessions. The more than 32 million thus beat the almost 28 million recorded on January 9 last year. Even in that case, however, the users actually “players” were around 8 million.

Steam: It’s a record of online players, but not everyone plays

The glaring figure is related precisely to the gap between connected users and those who are actually in the game session. Of the 32 million this weekend, “only” 10 million were busy playing. The remaining part was instead simply logged into the platform, leaving the client open. Common practice for those who maybe just want to download any updates or use Steam as a chat service.

Payday 3 will arrive on Steam in the course of 2023

In the meantime, Steam is preparing to welcome some Ubisoft titles into its catalog, a software house that has been out of the platform for over 5 years. In fact, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will arrive on January 12, which follows the arrival of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Roller Champions and Anno 1800. Moving on to other developers, the highly anticipated Payday 3 will also arrive in 2023, while in March it will be the turn of the beloved Sifu.

Finally, Tesla vehicle owners can now play on Steam directly from their cars.
