Warner Bros. Games today announced its new project: Mortal Kombat 1, the chapter that marks the return to the origins of the famous fighting game series that has conquered over 80 million fans in more than three decades. The game, made by NetherRealm Studioswill feature a completely revamped Mortal Kombat universe, offering fans a surprising, never-before-seen insight into the saga’s most beloved characters.
“Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise and we couldn’t be more excited to share this new story, accompanied by re-imaginings of classic characters, with our fans.” Ed Boon, creative lead of NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of Mortal Kombat. “We will also be introducing Kameo Fighters, who will add a unique lineup of companions to your party. Very soon we will be happy to show you this feature and other new elements of the game“.

Mortal Kombat 1 will hit the market on September 19, 2023, for PlayStation5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC consoles. Players will be able to immerse themselves in the old rivalries and personal stories of a wide range of characters. Among them, of course, there will be Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage and many others. The game will also introduce the Kameo wrestlers: companions of the characters who will be able to intervene during the fights, enriching the game possibilities.
Everyone who pre-orders will receive Shang Tsung as a playable character. Pre-orders on new-gen (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) will grant access to the August 2023 beta.
