Netflix: acquired Night School, an indie video game studio such as Oxenfree

The news of the first video game development house acquired by Netflix has emerged a few hours ago: it is Night School, studio creator of Oxenfree

For Netflix the time has come to take a next step: the company has recently officially obtained the ownership of Night School, an indie game development team that has made itself known above all thanks to the particular structures that characterize the narration and gameplay of the their video games, such as Oxenfree.

Netflix looks to the video game market with the acquisition of Night School, the creators of Oxenfree

It had long been aiming for an expansion in the gaming market, following closely the deeds of Amazon with the creation of Amazon Luna. Now, Netflix has begun to aggregate the first games developed, with one as a fixed point free and ad-free use, for users subscribed to the platform service. The company had already produced games based on the most famous series created over the years, such as Stranger Things 1984 and Bandersnatch; the ability to play through Netflix had already been given to Polish users in August, allowing them to access two games. The news was announced through the Polish account on Twitter:

Either way, Night School will be the first real study video game developer to become part of the Netflix environment, thus posing the question inherent in Oxenfree and whether it will be included in the future exclusive to the platform. The founder of the study, however, released a declaration, stating that they will still have independence in the creative department, and that the acquisition of Netflix it will not affect in any way on the development of Oxenfree II and upcoming games. Simply, they will be able to count on the support of the platform, with which they feel they fully share the visions of cultural diversity and videogame ambitions.

Netflix also says it is ready to increase its presence in the world of video games, and that of Night School and Oxenfree will be just one of the many acquisitions it will implement from here on out. We remind you that Oxenfree II is expected to be released in 2022 for all platforms.
