Netflix and videogames: the games available and the plans of the brand

Netflix aims to establish itself as one of the most interesting videogame services in the sector: here is the complete list of games and the statements of CEO Reed Hastings.

A new benchmark in the streaming games industry: Netflix

Netflix aims to establish itself as the “best ever” videogame service in the industry. These are the intentions declared by Reed Hastings, CEO of the leading company in the streaming content market. Hastings was very clear in this regard, stating that “we have to commit ourselves and be the best, it makes no sense for us to be there without excelling”

The platform started rolling out its gaming service as early as November 2021, allowing subscribers to free access to a variety of mobile games. The initial offer included 5 titles for Android and iOS released in 190 countries: Stranger Things: The Game, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Card Blast, Teeter and Shooting Hoops. However, a letter to the shareholders dated January 20 confirmed the company’s will to expand the catalog:

“Since the service’s initial launch, we’ve released five more titles, bringing the total to ten. We are still at the beginning, but we are satisfied with our progress. In 2022 we will expand our games portfolio, welcoming different videogame genres ”.

Will Netflix Become a Competitive Alternative to Game Pass?

A mission statement that could bring Netflix into direct competition with what, to date, is the leading platform for streaming gaming: Xbox Game Pass. The Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer enthusiastically welcomed Netflix’s arrival in the market:

“I think it’s a very smart move for them. They are buying studios and expanding their interactive content services. ”
