Netflix: the words of the CEOs on the cancellations

Netflix CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos have spoken out about the many cancellations of the streaming platform

Netflix’s tendency to prematurely cancel many of its shows is becoming increasingly evident, in many cases causing real waves of dissent. The last cases are those of 1899 e Uncoupled, but many cases can be cited, from Sense8 to The Midnight Club and so on. Cancellations that often caused a lot of talk, literally sending fans into a rage, eager to receive clarifications regarding the choices of the platform. In this regard, the two CEOs of Netflix, Greg Peters e Ted Sarandosshed light, in an interview with Bloomberg, on the modus operandi of the platform, explaining once and for all the reasons for the many cancellations.

Netflix: the words of the two CEOs

The problem, according to the two high-level executives of Netflix, is always related to the budget. The platform, according to Peters and Sarandos, has never canceled successful shows, but often had to cancel shows with great potential, but which were aimed at a public too small by virtue of the dislocated budget. Netflix’s goal is to reach a large audience with big-budget series, while small-budget productions are needed for niches. But when very expensive products are aimed at small audiences, in that case there is something wrong.

The reasoning put forward by the two CEOs of Netflix is flawless, however it is also true that very often excellent shows that were canceled early, such as 1899, have created controversy enormous, testifying that that target audience was not that small after all. In any case, the merit of the streaming platform was that it had clarified its strategies, even if this probably won’t serve to appease the controversy.
