Netflix’s cheap subscription will not allow downloads for offline viewing

As reported by Bloomberg, the imminent Affordable Netflix Subscription con advertising support will not allow subscribers to download contents and watch offline. The restriction was found in the Netflix app code for devices iOS, which reads “Download available on all plans except Netflix with ads”. Here are more details.

No content to watch offline with Netflix’s cheap subscription

Netflix’s standard plans allow users to download some content for offline viewing. Apparently, this function it will not be available in the economic subscription supported by advertising, allowing the streaming giant of differentiate further its levels.

The co-CEO of Netflix, Ted Sarandosconfirmed in June that the company is planning a cheaper Netflix tier, aimed at those who they are not interested in advertisements and who don’t want to pay for an ad-free Netflix subscription.

“We’ve left a large segment of customers off the table – people who say, ‘Hey, Netflix is too expensive for me and I have no problem with advertising,’” Sarandos said. “We are adding an advertising layer; we are not adding advertising to Netflix as you know it today. We’re adding an advertising layer for those who say, ‘Hey, I want a lower price and I’ll watch the ad’ ”.

Bloomberg claims that Netflix does not provide the possibility of skip the announcementsyes access the playback controls while playing the announcements. Furthermore, Netflix has previously confirmed that some content they will be limited to standard plans, i.e. those without advertising. However, the launch of the economic subscription is not foreseen before the start of 2023. This means that there may be further updates and news over the next few months.

At the moment we don’t know what the actual cost will be of this new subscription. However, we do know that Netflix has lost numerous subscribers for the first time in ten years. The company is therefore looking for a way to get back on track, particularly after that Disney+ has managed, for the first time, to surpass the streaming giant from the point of view of subscribers. We therefore await further information from Netflixhoping that he will be able to recover from this serious crisis.
